What is the “ECA” in Brazil?
In this interview, child-rights activists credit a viral video for moving a law: «contribuiu pra aprovação do ECA» (“it helped get the ECA passed”). The ECA is the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, Brazil’s Child and Adolescent Statute.
A landmark 1990 law, the ECA defines the rights and protections of Brazil’s under-18s. The clip discusses how a 2025 video by YouTuber Felipe Neto, denouncing the online sexual exploitation of children, accelerated new digital-safety rules. Acronyms-as-words are everyday Brazilian Portuguese: ECA, CLT (labour code), CPF (taxpayer ID).
