What does “tamo junto” mean in Portuguese?
Tamo junto is how Brazilians say “we’re in this together” or “I’ve got your back.” It’s a relaxed clipping of estamos juntos (“we are together”) — spoken Brazilian Portuguese routinely drops the es- and swallows the verb, so estamos becomes tamo. More than agreement, it’s a warm sign-off that signals loyalty and solidarity, the verbal equivalent of a fist bump between friends.
The clipping is everywhere in casual speech: tá for está, cê for você, and here tamo for estamos. Notice it also ignores the textbook plural agreement — strictly it would be estamos juntos, but the slang freezes as tamo junto. In texting it shrinks even further to tmj, one of the most common Brazilian sign-offs, right alongside valeu (“thanks”). In the clip the popular student tosses off “Tamo junto, viu?” on his way out — exactly the breezy, got-your-back register the phrase lives in.
