What does “en boucle” mean in French?

Describing how Russians spend New Year’s Day, a French vlogger notes that the same beloved Soviet films air «tous les ans en boucle» (“every year on a loop”). En boucle means “on repeat, on a loop,” from la boucle (“a loop, a buckle, a curl”).

It’s everywhere in everyday French: écouter une chanson en boucle (“play a song on repeat”), penser à quelque chose en boucle (“dwell on something over and over”). The clip is a tidy culture lesson too: Russian New Year, with salade olivier and champagne, dwarfs Christmas, which falls on January 7th. But en boucle is the phrase you’ll reuse daily.
