What does “shopping spree” mean in English?
The word “spree” means a short time when you do one thing a lot, all at once. A “shopping spree” means going to a store and buying many things, usually for fun. You can also say “a spending spree” when you want to talk about the money. In the clip, a rescued dog named Chooch — who once had only a coconut to play with — goes to a pet store to pick out his very own toys.
The word “spree” can go with other activities too. A “crime spree” means many crimes done in a short time. A “spending spree” means buying a lot very quickly. You might hear: “She went on a shopping spree after getting her first paycheck.” In the clip, the people who saved Chooch take him to a pet store to “get all the toys” — a small shopping spree as a thank-you for getting through a very hard life.
