How are Dutch “filemeldingen” made?

Filemeldingen are the Netherlands' radio traffic-report tradition: short, half-hourly bulletins that list the country’s files (traffic jams) by motorway and direction, with delay estimates in minutes. Dutch commuters treat them like religion. The reports are produced by VID (Verkeersinformatiedienst, owned by Talpa) and broadcast on virtually every Dutch radio station, including NPO Radio 1, NPO Radio 2, BNR Nieuwsradio, and Sky Radio. Data is gathered from Rijkswaterstaat sensors on the motorway, plus police, Inpactmeldingen, and crowdsourced Flitsmeister user reports. Morning rush-hour file-totals routinely exceed 800 km of jams.
