What does “bancar” mean in Argentine Spanish?

In this influencer parody, the narrator snaps at her assistant to be patient: «a Ana, bancá un poco» (“Ana, hold on a sec”). Bancá is the voseo command form of bancar, one of the most useful verbs in Rioplatense Spanish, where standard Spanish would reach for aguantar or apoyar.

Bancar bends to fit almost anything: “te banco” (“I’ve got your back”), “no lo banco” (“I can’t stand him”), “bancá un toque” (“hold on a moment”), even “yo lo banco” (“I’ll pay for it”). It comes from banca (“bank”), as in backing a bet. Master bancar and you can support a friend, lose patience, or wait, all with one verb.
