What does “kanni dasheet jahannam” mean in Arabic?
كني دشيت جهنم (kanni dasheet jahannam), literally “as if I’d entered hell,” is the everyday Arabic exaggeration for any rough experience. A Gulf student says it in this clip after a hard exam. Religious-imagery hyperbole runs through Arabic conversation broadly: exams, traffic, hot weather, and in-laws all routinely get described as “hell.”
The clip layers an extra twist. The exam was on Islamic Studies, so calling it جهنم lands as both real complaint and sly joke. The student also worries about شبهات (shubuhat, “doubts”), turning a religious concept into exam-anxiety material. The sacred and the ordinary brush against each other constantly in Arabic humor.
