What does 'ערס' mean in Israeli slang?

ערס (ars) is Israeli slang for a stereotypical Mizrahi tough-guy type: short fuse, blunt speech, gym muscles, gold chain, more confidence than information. It started as a slur, got reclaimed in the 1990s by Mizrahi and Sephardi pop culture, and now flips between affectionate ribbing and genuine insult depending on who’s talking and how.

This comedian stages ערס as the army-buddy with a one-word vocabulary. He recalls a friend giving relationship advice in three words: « מה, נדלקת על המשקית؟ תבוא אליה, תגיד לה פה שם וזה » (what, you’ve got the hots for her? Just say 'this-and-that', you’ll have her). The bit lands because an ערס helping with love is comedy when the toolkit is this small.
