What does “albureaste” mean in Mexican Spanish?
An albur is the Mexican art of the loaded double meaning: you take an ordinary phrase and twist it so it lands with a hidden, usually sexual, second sense — ideally trapping the other person into having “set it up.” Alburear is the verb, and albureaste (“you albured [me/him]”) is the gleeful accusation when someone scores a point. It is a competitive, quick-fire street game, prized as verbal sharpness rather than mere crudeness.
Here two women confront a con man in front of a priest, and their tangle of “por atrás… por adelante” double meanings leaves the poor padrecito squirming — prompting the line “albureaste al padrecito” (“you just albur’d the little priest”).
