What does “c’est gênant” mean in French?
The reel title calls this conversation “gênante” — awkward. “La gêne” covers a wide range: mild discomfort, embarrassment, and social awkwardness all in one word. It is not a strong word like “humiliation.” You feel “la gêne” when you say something wrong at dinner, or when two people like each other but cannot say it. It is one of the most useful French feeling words, and learners often miss it.
