What does “chronia polla” mean in Greek?
In this Mother’s Day montage, the wish is the one every Greek knows: «Χρόνια πολλά σε όλες τις μαμάδες» (“many years to all the moms”). Χρόνια πολλά literally means “many years,” and it’s the all-purpose Greek greeting for almost any happy occasion, wishing the person many more to come.
Birthdays, name days, Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, even a christening: the answer is always χρόνια πολλά. Name days (γιορτή) matter as much as birthdays in Greece, and this is exactly what you say. Learn these two words and you’re ready for every Greek celebration on the calendar.
