What does “تلزيقة” mean in Levantine Arabic?
تلزيقة (talzīqa) is the Levantine word for a piece of sticky tape. Standard textbooks use شريط لاصق (sharīṭ lāsiq), but in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine, everyday speech reaches for تلزيقة — built from the verb لزّق (lazzaq), “to stick something down.” That single verb also gives you the action noun تلزيق (sticking) and the imperative لزّق (stick it!) — a productive little family once you hear the pattern.
In this $200 challenge, a player must peel a تلزيقة off a sheet of paper without puncturing or tearing it — the verb خزق (khazaq), “to pierce/rip,” gets equal airtime as the opposing fear. You hear تلزيقة more than half a dozen times in under a minute, making the clip an ideal ear-training drill for the word. Off-screen, تلزيقة is real-world Levantine product vocabulary: 3M Scotch tape sold in Lebanese stationery shops is routinely labelled تلزيقة مغلفة — the colloquial sitting comfortably alongside the brand name.
