What does “منيح” (mnih) mean in Levantine Arabic?

منيح (mnīḥ) is how Syrians, Lebanese, Palestinians, and Jordanians say “good” — and it doubles as “well”: غسلت منيح means “you washed well.” Textbook Arabic gives you جيد, and Egyptian media gives you كويس, but in the Levant منيح is the default. Hear it and you instantly know roughly where a speaker is from — it’s one of the clearest Levantine dialect markers there is.

In the clip, one friend hauls the other out of a washing mishap and signs off with برافو عليك، غسلت منيح — “bravo, you washed properly.” Useful spins: منيحة for feminine (“الأكلة منيحة”, the food is good), the question منيح؟ as a quick “all good?”, and مش منيح for “not good.” Swap in كويس in Cairo and زين in the Gulf, and you’ve covered “good” across the map.
