What does “tawam rouhi” (توأم روحي) mean in Arabic?

Where English finds a soulmate, Arabic finds a soul twin: توأم روحي, “the twin of my soul.” توأم is the ordinary word for a twin sibling, so the metaphor is stronger than “mate” — not a companion your soul found, but the one it was born with. The song in this clip stacks it with superlatives: أجمل حاجة (“the most beautiful thing”) and أغلى حاجة (“the most precious thing”).

The line runs يا روحي انك توأم روحي — “my soul, you are my soul’s twin” — showing يا روحي (“my soul”) working as a term of address in its own right, one of Arabic’s favorite endearments alongside يا قلبي (“my heart”) and يا عمري (“my life”). Note the Egyptian-flavored حاجة for “thing” where fusha would say شيء.
