What does “glassbil” mean in Swedish?

Swedish builds new words by sticking two together like bricks: brand (fire) + bil (car) = brandbil, the fire engine. sopor (rubbish) + bil = sopbil, the rubbish truck. Then the sweet one: glass + bil = glassbil, the ice-cream van. Here’s the twist — glass has nothing to do with windows. It comes from the French word glace and just means ice cream. A lovely Swedish false friend.

In Swedish you join nouns with no spaces and no real limit, and the last word sets the gender. Sometimes a small -s- slips in to make it easier to say, as in glassbil (glass + s + bil).
