What does “çiçek açmak” mean in Turkish?

A Turkish teacher narrates a slow spring walk and points out the season: «ağaçlar çiçek açıyor» (“the trees are blossoming”). The phrase is çiçek açmak, “to blossom”, and literally “to open flowers.”
