What are “gofry” in Poland?

This recipe promises «najlepsze, przepyszne, chrupiące gofry» (“the best, delicious, crispy waffles”). Gofry are waffles, but in Poland they’re less a breakfast and more a holiday memory.

Walk any stretch of the Polish Baltic coast in summer and you’ll smell them: gofry z bitą śmietaną i owocami (waffles with whipped cream and fruit) are the seaside snack, sold from every budka (kiosk). The word comes from French gaufre. Crisp outside, piled with cream, they taste like Polish summer holidays.
