What is the difference between “przynieść” and “przywieźć”?

Polish won’t let you just “bring” something — it wants to know how it traveled. Przynieść is to bring something you carried on foot; przywieźć is to bring it by vehicle. That’s why the man in this story przywiózł all the furniture for the school he built — desks arrive by truck, not in your arms. Same prefix, same meaning of arrival; the root verb encodes the wheels.

The split runs through all of Polish motion: nieść (carry) vs. wieźć (transport), iść (go on foot) vs. jechać (go by vehicle), zanieść vs. zawieźć (take something somewhere). Ask a Pole to przynieść a wardrobe from another city and you’ve made a small comedy. The story’s other gem: strzała (arrow) — he flies wherever his dart lands, and it landed on Guinea-Bissau.
