What does the Italian nursery rhyme “Lunedì chiusin chiusino” teach?

This filastrocca (nursery rhyme) walks through the days of the week using the life of a baby chick: Lunedì chiusin chiusino — “Monday, snugly shut” (still inside the egg) — through Tuesday’s crack, Wednesday’s hatch, Thursday’s first pio pio (cheep cheep), and on to its first little crest by Sunday. It’s one of the most common ways Italian children first learn the seven days in order.
