What does “just in case” mean in English?

You use just in case when something might happen, so you get ready for it. You bring food just in case you get hungry. You take an umbrella just in case it rains. Maybe you will not need it. But you are ready. It is a short, common phrase, and you can put it at the end of a sentence. It shows that you plan for a small “maybe.”

In the clip the teacher says: “Maybe I bring this food just in case I am hungry… I might bring some food just in case.” More examples: “I’ll bring some money just in case” or “Set two alarms, just in case the first one doesn’t go off.”
