What does “come over” mean in English?

Come over is a small, common phrase. It means come to my house to visit. If a friend says, “Come over,” they want you to visit them at home. You do not need to add “to my house” — the phrase already means it. You can also say, “Come over here,” which just means come to this spot near me. It is friendly, easy, everyday English.

In this lesson the teacher explains it well: “If someone just says, come over, come over, it means come over here or usually come over to my house.” So if a friend texts “come over,” they are asking you to visit. You can answer, “Sure, I’ll come over.”
