What does “hit the bell” mean on YouTube?

At the end of videos, people say “like, subscribe, and hit the bell.” Here hit does not mean to punch something. It means to tap or click. The bell is a small bell icon on the screen. When you hit the bell, you turn on messages. Then you get a message every time the channel puts up a new video. So hit the bell just means “click the bell to get news of new videos.”

In the clip the host says: “Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell.” You will hear this on almost every YouTube video. Note: hit is used like this in many places, for example “hit the button” means “press the button.”
