What does “ida y vuelta” mean in Spanish?

When you buy a ticket, you choose between ida and ida y vuelta. Ida by itself is one way — you go and you do not come back on the same ticket. Ida y vuelta is a round trip: ida is the trip there and vuelta is the trip back. So un billete de ida y vuelta a Madrid is “a round-trip ticket to Madrid.”

The clip lists travel words and says billete, ida, ida y vuelta together, which is exactly the choice a ticket machine or clerk gives you. In much of Latin America the ticket is boleto instead of billete, but ida y vuelta stays the same. Useful for trains, buses, and flights.
