What does “perrito” mean in Colombian Spanish?

Perrito (“little dog”) is the Colombian Spanish diminutive of perro. The -ito / -ita ending lives at the heart of Colombian everyday speech: amorcito (sweetheart), cafecito (a small coffee), ratico (a little while). The diminutive softens the noun and signals tenderness. Latin American comedy uses perrito as a recognizable beat: any serious genre scene (heist, action, thriller) can be derailed the moment a character spots one and starts cooing.

In this clip, a Colombian couple stages a fake robbery. The wife, Sofía, spots a dog at the target’s house and stops everything: “Ay, un perrito. Me lo voy a quedar” (“Oh, a puppy. I’m keeping it”). The diminutive turns the entire heist into a rescue mission.
