Who is Vanessa Chinitor and what’s “Like The Wind”?

Vanessa Chinitor represented Belgium at the 1999 Eurovision Song Contest with the English-language ballad Like The Wind. The result was a respectable mid-table finish in Jerusalem that didn’t extend her career into the English-language market but locked her into Belgian music memory. Vanessa was the Flemish teen-pop face of the late 1990s, charting through 2002, then transitioning into Belgian reality TV and occasional Eurovision-comeback specials. Like The Wind still gets requested at karaoke and on Belgian Eurovision tribute nights.

In this VTM reunion clip, Chinitor performs the chorus again while the host directs the audience to wave their hands: “We gaan hier een beetje wind maken, ja.”
