What is “wintertijd” in the Netherlands?

Twice a year, the Netherlands switches between wintertijd (“winter time,” standard CET) and zomertijd (“summer time,” CEST). The clocks move back on the last Sunday of October, forward on the last Sunday of March, and Dutch families spend the next morning trying to recalibrate kids and pets to the new schedule. The Netherlands has been a vocal supporter of abolishing the switch entirely; a 2018 EU-wide poll showed over 80% of Dutch respondents wanted to pick one and stop changing.
