What is “Wie is de Mol?” in the Netherlands?

Since 2000, Dutch winter prime-time has had one fixed point: Wie is de Mol? (“Who is the Mole?”). Three to four million viewers tune in to watch ten celebrities travel abroad for assignments, secretly sabotaged by one of their own. Viewers and contestants both have to figure out who. The format was exported globally as The Mole, but the Dutch original is the one with the cult following: its own podcasts, fan-Reddit, full ecosystem of theories. Each new season’s destination is itself a national tabloid story.

In this Wie is de Mol? clip, the host announces a horseback obstacle course. One contestant volunteers but admits: “Ik vind paarden prachtige dieren, maar ik durf het gewoon niet zo goed.”
