What is “Ouwehands Dierenpark” in the Netherlands?

Ouwehands Dierenpark is a Dutch zoo in Rhenen, in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug hill area. Founded in 1932 by Cor Ouwehand, the zoo became nationally famous in 2017 when it received two giant pandas (Wu Wen and Xing Ya) on a 15-year breeding loan from China, the Netherlands' first since the 1980s. Ouwehands also runs large-bear and elephant rescue programs (Bear Forest) and operates one of the few European zoos with a full-size koala-verblijf. About 1.4 million visitors come per year, mostly Dutch families on a dagje uit.
