What does “stemacteur” mean in Dutch?

A performer keeps breaking into silly villain voices, announcing each time: «Ik ben een stemacteur» (“I’m a voice actor”). A stemacteur is exactly that, stem (“voice”) plus acteur (“actor”), someone who acts with their voice alone.

It’s a busy job in the Netherlands, where children’s films and cartoons are routinely nagesynchroniseerd (dubbed) into Dutch, so kids grow up knowing their favourite stemacteurs. The clip’s gallery of baddies, a pirate, a “generaal zot” (General Crazy), a world-conquering germ, is a showcase of the trade. Live-action stays subtitled, but the cartoons all speak Dutch.
