What is “Boer Zoekt Vrouw” in the Netherlands?

Boer Zoekt Vrouw (“Farmer Wants a Wife”) is the Netherlands' most-watched reality dating format, on KRO-NCRV since 2004 and presented for nearly two decades by Yvon Jaspers. The show profiles Dutch farmers (and sometimes farmers from the Belgian, Australian, or Canadian Dutch diaspora) seeking love, then lets viewers send letters to candidates. Selected letter-writers get invited to spend a week on the farm. The format taps deep Dutch platteland nostalgia and has produced dozens of long-term marriages and, by KRO’s count, more than fifty Boer Zoekt Vrouw babies. The format also runs in Belgium (VTM), Australia (Channel 9), and the UK (Channel 5).
