“Sans crier gare” means something happens suddenly, with no warning at all. The word “gare” here is not the train station. It is a very old French shout that means “watch out!” So the idiom means: something arrives and nobody called out a warning first. You can use it for any kind of surprise — a storm, a thief, or a person who suddenly shows up.
