What does “dmuchany” mean in Polish?

The childhood dream she finally buys is a “dmuchany zamek” — a bouncy castle, literally a “blown castle.” “Dmuchany” is built straight from “dmuchać” (to blow), turned into an adjective that describes anything shaped by air: the ending marks it as “having had air blown into it,” the same logic English uses when it calls something “inflatable.”

The same “-any/-ony” ending turns countless verbs into descriptive adjectives: “dmuchany balon” (an inflated/blow-up balloon), “dmuchany materac” (an air mattress). Spot the pattern, and you can describe anything filled with air without learning a separate word for each object.
