What does “złoty” mean in Polish?

This budget-cooking series sets a tight rule: «przepisy w 30 minut do 15 złotych za porcję» (“recipes in 30 minutes, up to 15 złoty per portion”). The złoty (plural złotych) is Poland’s currency, and the word literally means “golden.”

It splits into 100 grosze, and you’ll see it written zł or PLN. The adjective złoty also just means “golden”: złoty medal (gold medal), złota rączka (a “golden hand,” i.e. a handyman). Poland kept the złoty instead of the euro, so you’ll be counting them on every trip.
