Judges React To Undercooked Sausages On Bake Off

What does “you let yourself down” mean in British TV culture?
British reality TV has a stock disappointment line: “You let yourself down. You let your family down. You let me down.” The phrasing is most strongly associated with Lord Alan Sugar on The Apprentice UK (BBC One, since 2005), where he uses it to dress down losing candidates in the boardroom. The line spread into broader British comedy and now shows up across British TV any time a judge or boss has to deliver a serious telling-off, sometimes earnest, sometimes mocking.
In this clip, The Great British Bake Off judges react to undercooked sausages with a riff on the trio: “You’ve let Prue down. You let me down. You let yourselves down.” The reference fits British TV humor.
