What does “la cagué” mean in Mexican Spanish?
La cagué is the everyday Mexican way to admit you blew it. Built on the very rude verb cagar, the trick is the feminine la: the pronoun stands in for the unnamed thing you ruined, turning a vulgar verb into a compact “I screwed up.” Keep it for friends — it’s genuinely coarse in front of people you respect. The tamer, safe-for-grandma swap is la regué, same meaning, no profanity.
Conjugates freely: no la cagues (“don’t screw this up”), la cagaste (“you blew it”), la cagaron (“they messed it up”). The feminine-la construction is the same machinery behind other idioms where a hidden “it” carries the sense.
