That’s exactly the setup here — a father buys his kids cornetas, and his wife is already bracing for the noise before he’s even handed them over.

The word shifts by country: in Venezuela, corneta usually means a car horn or a loudspeaker, while in Colombia it more often points to a megaphone-style noisemaker or toy horn. Across the region, though, the common thread is the same — corneta is something built to be loud, whether it’s music, a warning, or a kid’s toy built purely to test a parent’s patience.
