What does “dwijukbakjuk” mean in Korean?

뒤죽박죽 (dwijukbakjuk)
Korean sound-symbolic adverb
all jumbled together, in no order whatsoever

뒤죽박죽 is Korean at its most physical: four syllables that sound like the mess they name. It means thoroughly mixed up with no order left — a room, a schedule, a set of memories, or, in this story, houses 뒤죽박죽으로 한데 모여 있는, huddled together every which way. Korean has hundreds of these paired-syllable adverbs doing work English hands to adjectives.

The reduplication is the point, exactly as in “higgledy-piggledy” or “topsy-turvy.” Close neighbours: 우왕좌왕 (rushing in all directions at once), 티격태격 (bickering back and forth), 오락가락 (going and coming, wavering). The clip is a Korean reading of chapter eight of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
