What does the ending “-iĝi” mean in Esperanto?

Documenting her hair-dye results, this creator narrates the whole process with one repeated ending: her hair koloriĝis (became colored), a previous dye job paliĝis (faded), and before that it had fandiĝis (melted/blended) into a different shade. -iĝi turns almost any root into “become [root]” — no separate verb needed for each new state.
