What does 真実はいつも一つ mean in Detective Conan?

真実はいつも一つ (shinjitsu wa itsumo hitotsu)
Japanese anime catchphrase
“There is always only one truth” — Detective Conan’s signature line, said the instant the mystery clicks into place.

This comedy skit revolves around watching a Detective Conan movie with someone who’s seen it before and can’t stop spoiling the culprit — the joke escalates into a fake-memory-loss bit, then closes with the show’s own catchphrase, delivered dead straight: 真実はいつも一つ. It means that no matter how contradictory the clues look, only one explanation can account for all of them, which happens to be the entire premise of the detective genre the skit is mocking.

真実はいつも一つ was written into the manga at chapter 95 and has opened nearly every episode of the anime since, spoken by child detective Conan as part of his own introduction. Officially localized in English as “One Truth Prevails,” it’s become one of the most quoted lines in anime fandom, recognizable enough that dropping it, as this skit does, works as a punchline on its own without Conan ever appearing on screen.
