Te water raken means “to end up in the water” — specifically a vehicle sliding or driving into a canal, river, or ditch. The phrase exists because it describes something Dutch roads make possible almost everywhere: the Netherlands has more roadside waterways than anywhere else in Europe, so roughly 750–800 vehicles end up in the water there every year.
