How do Dutch primary-school teachers celebrate their birthday in class?

In Dutch primary schools, both kids and teachers celebrate their verjaardag op school with the whole class. When it’s a kid’s birthday, the child wears a paper crown (verjaardagskroon), gets sung to, and brings a traktatie (a small treat for every classmate). When it’s the teacher’s turn, the class plans an escape room, a speurtocht (treasure hunt), or a themed lunch. Either way the day belongs to the birthday person, and learning takes a back seat.
