What is the Dutch “vape-verbod”?

The Dutch vape-verbod is the country’s ongoing policy response to teen vaping. The Netherlands banned gearomatiseerde (flavored) vapes in 2023, and the Tabakswet now requires vape sales only at registered tabaksspeciaalzaken (specialty tobacco shops, not at supermarkets, gas stations, or kiosks). Trimbos Instituut surveys show roughly one in seven Dutch 14-year-olds has tried vaping, prompting parental concern and gemeente policy moves. The vape-ban is enforced by NVWA with fines for retailers and confiscation of products from minors. Dutch parenting writing increasingly treats vaping as the new generational equivalent of underage smoking.
