What does “doorzagen” mean in Dutch?

Doorzagen literally means to saw through something completely — door (through) + zagen (to saw). In everyday Dutch, though, the same verb means to keep harping on a topic, to drone on without stopping. The two senses sit at opposite ends of the register: one belongs to a workshop, the other to an exasperated dinner table. Knowing both meanings stops a very common colloquial verb from sounding like a power tool.
