오토바이에서 롤러코스터로, 과적 개그 상황극

What does “과적” mean in Korean?
과적 means overloading a vehicle past its legal weight limit — the kind of offence that gets a freight truck pulled over and fined. It’s built from 과 (過, “over, excess”) plus 적 (積, “to load, pile up”), so the word literally says “over-load.” Normally you’d meet it on a highway weigh-station sign, not pointed at two people and their luggage on a motorbike.
The joke turns on a real rule: an officer threatens a 과태료 (administrative fine) for 과적, deadpanning that “이런 물건은 화물차에 싣고 다녀요” — “cargo like this belongs on a freight truck (화물차),” not a motorcycle. Outside the gag, 과적 is everyday transport vocabulary in Korea: you’ll see 과적 단속 (“overloading crackdown”) signs near weigh stations and 과적 차량 (“overloaded vehicle”) in news about road safety. The shared 과 (excess) shows up across the language — 과식 (overeating), 과로 (overwork), 과속 (speeding) — so spotting it flags “too much of something” on sight.
