What does “un grand moment de solitude” mean in French?

Un (grand) moment de solitude is not about being alone. It names the instant a joke dies, an answer falls flat, or a question catches you out and nobody comes to the rescue — the cringe of being socially stranded in a full room. English has no single word for it; “toe-curling” or “left hanging” comes closest. The solitude is emotional, and the phrase is affectionately ironic.

It travels well into commentary: face aux questions du journaliste, le ministre a vécu un grand moment de solitude. Here it is a rapid-fire interview prompt — ton plus grand moment de solitude ? — and the guest answers en ce moment, which is the joke. The same round yields two more keepers: ton juron préféré ? (un juron is a swear word, from jurer) and je passe inaperçue (“I go unnoticed”).
