What does “revisité” mean in French cooking?
When a French cook says a dish is “revisité,” they don’t mean they ate it again. It means they took a classic recipe and made it new — same idea, different form. Here Lola changes the old “bouchées à la reine” into small muffin-tin cups. You will see this word everywhere: on menus, in food videos, and in reviews. “Une revisite” is the noun for that new version.
In the clip: “je t’invite pour une rentrée de roi avec cette revisite des bouchées à la reine” — “I invite you to a royal comeback with this new take on bouchées à la reine.” “Revisiter” comes from “visiter” (to visit) plus the prefix “re-”. The literal meaning is “to visit again,” but in food and culture it means to look at something familiar in a new way and remake it. A chef keeps the key flavors of the dish but changes the shape, the cooking method, or one ingredient. You will meet two forms. The adjective: “un plat revisité,” “une recette revisitée” (note the agreement: revisité / revisitée / revisités). The noun: “une revisite” — “a reinterpretation, a new version.” Both are very common in everyday food talk, on restaurant menus, and in online reviews of films, songs, or fashion (“une revisite du style des années 80”). Do not confuse “revisiter” with English “to revisit” meaning “look at something again.” In French food and culture, it almost always means “creatively remake.”
