In Egyptian Arabic, عريس الصالونات (ʿarīs al-ṣālūnāt) is the man who comes formally to propose — sitting in the family’s reception salon as both sides size each other up. The صالون here is the front room kept for guests, not a beauty salon; it’s the stage for first impressions in arranged-marriage culture. The whole visit is called زواج الصالونات, and looking presentable isn’t optional — which is why the girl here has seconds to transform before the elevator opens.
The scene works as comedy only if you know the ritual: a formal suitor arriving unannounced (or with very little warning) is a real social pressure in Egyptian life. The girl presses every elevator button to buy time — she removes a fake nose, wipes her face with a borrowed tea cup, and steps out looking composed.
