لخبط (lakhbat) means to mix things up in a deliberately disorienting way — to jumble, baffle, or throw someone off. It is Egyptian colloquial, carrying a flavour of purposeful disorder that no single MSA word quite captures. The noun لخبطة (lakhbata) names the resulting mess. You can لخبط a schedule, a plan, someone’s thinking — or, as this father does, a whole house full of hidden rooms built specifically to لخبط the thieves.
The root ل-خ-ب-ط appears across several Arabic dialects (it has a cognate in Hijazi Arabic), but the Egyptian form لخبط has a particular colloquial energy — playful yet pointed, describing chaos that serves a purpose.
