Pinlig far når veninderne kommer på besøg

What does “pinligt altså” mean in Danish?
Pinligt is the Danish word for “embarrassing,” but in spoken teen Danish it covers a wider range: awkward, cringe, mortifying, please-stop. The interjection årh, pinligt altså! (“oh, so embarrassing!”) is teenage-Danish-girl-coded, in the same bucket as American “ew, dad, stop.”
This clip captures the classic setup: friends arrive, the dad walks through in his underwear, the daughter delivers a pinligt altså! with full theatrical sigh. Altså on its own is a tone-particle Danish learners struggle with, used to soften, intensify, or signal “look, I’m telling you something.” Stacked on pinligt, it turns a one-word reaction into a small performance.
