What does “tak čau” mean in Czech?

Tak čau is the casual Czech sign-off. Čau itself came in from Italian ciao through the 20th century and stuck around for both hi and bye. Adding tak (so / well then) at the front signals wrap-up. Tak čau is what you say leaving a friend’s place, ending a phone call, closing a YouTube video, or finishing a chat with a coworker. Stronger than na shledanou (formal goodbye), warmer than just čau.
